Literature Review/Proposal update

1.Yes, I have done more research and found some information to put in where you suggested that I add things. I am in the process of revising my paper again adding in information and switching things around.

2.We are going to do a project/research proposal to address our campus organization's multicultural issue. We are going to do a survey for minorities on campus to find out information that would be beneficial to our organization and maybe even the campus.

Foster Children Reading

a) Orme, John G. and Beuhler, Cheryl. "Foster Family Characteristics and Behavioral and Emotional Problems of Foster Children: A Narrative Review." Family Relations, Vol. 50, No. 1 (Jan., 2001), pp. 3-15

b)The research that is done in this article is on how there are an increasing amount of children being taken out of their homes and placed in foster care. They look at what effects this has on a child emotionally and behaviorally. Looking at how different factors such as parenting, the family home environment, family functioning, marital functioning, family demography, child temperament, parents' mental health, and social support can have an influence on the child's behavior. They want to find the best way for families to work with children to help with behavioral problems due to being placed in foster care.

c)I felt that this article was very well organized. I enjoyed how they started out with a brief bit of information on foster children since 1982 giving you background information. Then they went into the postive and negative effects with foster children and foster families. Then it went into detailed descriptions of each topic and I enjoyed the well laid out table implimented into the paper.

d)The purpose of the literature review of the Foster Children reading was to better look at (analyze) and link the studies done on foster children and the families in comparison to the foster children in foster care these days.

e)In my eyes, after reading this article, I do not think that the article violated any critical thinking ways. I really did not think it contained any bias and was a pretty well rounded topic and discussed all aspects of the situation. It defined the problem and discussed it throughout the article. So I feel that it was a good article and did not have any violations.

Google

One trick for google is to use quotations when you are researching. That way it will research those exact words and also narrows the search dramatically then if you would just google the words or subject you are looking up. It is good to narrow your search because it will be more effective in the end. Another trick of google that we learned is to use google advanced search. Using the advanced search on google lets you type in keywords and even when the articles were written so you get more recent relevant information. This is helpful because again it narrows the search even more making this an effective search tool also.

project

My project is going exceptionally well. I need to meet with my partner to discuss things. I am also in the moment of trying to get possible survey questions together. I am looking at many articles and books and periodical articles to help with my research project. So that is where I am at right now.

Progress

Even though my life is at a down spiral I am continuing to give everything my all. This project is adding a lot of stress on my life right now. However, I have begun research process and have began to look at different ways others schools have used to educate students, recruit students, and more in the African American culture. We are working together and she is working on the recruitment part whereas I am working on the education part and what interests African American students to get more involved. I want to create a survey to more understand what we can do and keep on doing to enhance involvement in the C.A.A.S. organization.

Discussion #6

In my English 191 class we had a tour of the library. So I knew a lot of things already and how to navigate and make your searches more narrow. I was not in class for the examples and stuff on Friday but searching my own stuff it helped. In the Miller Center Library there were a lot more information present about my topic whereas in the Great River Regional Library not as much information was present and I really had to narrow and add words just to find things that went with my topic

Organization

I am working with C.A.A.S. for my project in this class. Our multiculturism project is about trying to recrute more African American students. This is an organization for the purpose and involve this minority. One thing that I am going to do is see if they have went out and educated other students about this organization. Also, if they have ever surveyed the campus about this organization. We have many multiculturism issues we discuss and would love to have more African American students being involved in the organization.
