a) Orme, John G. and Beuhler, Cheryl. "Foster Family Characteristics and Behavioral and Emotional Problems of Foster Children: A Narrative Review." Family Relations, Vol. 50, No. 1 (Jan., 2001), pp. 3-15
b)The research that is done in this article is on how there are an increasing amount of children being taken out of their homes and placed in foster care. They look at what effects this has on a child emotionally and behaviorally. Looking at how different factors such as parenting, the family home environment, family functioning, marital functioning, family demography, child temperament, parents' mental health, and social support can have an influence on the child's behavior. They want to find the best way for families to work with children to help with behavioral problems due to being placed in foster care.
c)I felt that this article was very well organized. I enjoyed how they started out with a brief bit of information on foster children since 1982 giving you background information. Then they went into the postive and negative effects with foster children and foster families. Then it went into detailed descriptions of each topic and I enjoyed the well laid out table implimented into the paper.
d)The purpose of the literature review of the Foster Children reading was to better look at (analyze) and link the studies done on foster children and the families in comparison to the foster children in foster care these days.
e)In my eyes, after reading this article, I do not think that the article violated any critical thinking ways. I really did not think it contained any bias and was a pretty well rounded topic and discussed all aspects of the situation. It defined the problem and discussed it throughout the article. So I feel that it was a good article and did not have any violations.

Hi Ashlee,
ReplyDeleteDid you notice what the researcher (and the researchers that she cited) said about families, and primary caregivers?
